Custom Cages 'Club' cage
Moderator: martauto
Has anyone used any of the custom cages 'club' cages? I was looking at the CL4 spec cage and with the addition of some harness bars looks like it would be a good option for track days.

Yeah they are a kit of pre bent tubes with or without profiled ends. You have to weld it all togather and into the car. They offer a fitted service too though.
+1 on that.RPM wrote:The bending is a bit hit and miss, the profiling is a joke
My advice would be not to get profiled ends and get an expert to fit it for you.
Custom Cages own fitting service is top notch (but can be pricey I believe). Might be worth getting a quote, though.

I have to agree with the last two comments.
I put a Sparco cage into a Pug 205 Gti and nearly every pipe had to be cut and rewelded to fit the shell properly. My E30 has an OMP cage, and again many many pipes didn't fit that well. Don't bother with the profiling and get someone handy to fit it.

Going by the E30 pictures on their site, the multipoint cage looks pretty good (better than lots I have seen).
The price looks about right too (even including installation).
Of all the parts on a race car, you never scrimp on brakes or the roll cage. When all else fail, these MUST keep working.

Cheers,

Unfortunately I don't think I can stretch my budget to the multipoint. Shame cos it looks like it would take a pounding. I bet it would stiffen the car up a lot too.
Custom Cages have certainly stepped up the quality since myself and RPM had E30 cages back in 2007 ish.
I'm installing 2x E36 multipoint for M3 coupe's at the moment and I am impressed with the correct fitment of everything so far. Profiles are very good and bends are all within spec for these shells.
Yes a few years ago I agree, their profiled ends were a bit sketchy BUT I can see they have improved service since then.
They now even supply a CD full of pictures for the car/cage you ordered (62 pictures for the E36 cages), as well as a decent length DVD of fitting proceedure and step by step in what order.
They've certainly taken on board customer comments and these new supplied pictures/DVD should help anyone doing one for the first time.
Just for your info they only offer profiles ends now a days. It's just 1 price for the cage (depending on CDS or T45). No 'non profiled' options.
I am expecting a Custom Cage Club CL4 kit to arrive with me this week actually. Its for an E36 saloon but will be interesting to see what these are like.

Hi James, I'd be really interested to hear your feedback on the CL4 spec cage once you've had a look over it if you have time
Sure, no worries PZero.PZero wrote:Hi James, I'd be really interested to hear your feedback on the CL4 spec cage once you've had a look over it if you have time
I'll give you my honest opinion on value for money, fitment and anything else relivent as I will be installing it too.
I'll be sure to get some pictures too!

That would be really appreciated. If the fitment is good it will be moving straight to the top of my shortlist.Reeeedish wrote:Sure, no worries PZero.
