I'm considering it, need to finish a few bits on the car, get it aligned &corner weighted, taxed, MOT'd and insured first though.

I've been to loads of MSV trackdays...never been blackflagged!

If you want a drift day, though, this won't be it, then...

+1, especially at Brands they are very relaxed.
May come down even having no car to drive.

and 1 flat packed 325i , driving standards varied why do some people in newer cars not like being overtaken by older but way quicker cars? Took some determined blue flagging to get them to move over!!!!!

We had that at Racecar Live though, we where in an E36 M3 race car and we had people in Evo's and Ferrari's completely ignoring the blue flags with us behind. When we got past them, we where coming down the hill from the hairpin and you could seem them just begining paddock hill  just showed how slow they where.

I have to admit that I don't like the donotmoverignorerearviewmirror brigade as well. But keep in mind guys, this is a track day and not a race. Said newer car owner may well be the first time out on a proper race track and so busy with himself that he may not realize what is going on behind him.
And of course the disbelief that an old car just CAN'T be faster than 50k worth of M-power isn't helping either. AND he has paid the same money as you, so has a right to have some fun.
On a short track like Brands Indy this can be very frustration for BOTH. The faster having to wait behind slower cars all the time and the slower to have to watch his mirror all the time and move over 3 times a lap.
But the slower driver needs to learn the proper lines as well and he/she can't do this by moving over all the time. Remember when you started, took some time to learn as well, didn't it?

peace

I agree, Uwe...But yesterday, the worst offender(s) yesterday were/was the Renault Megane circuit cars with people taking their ARDS training (I assume) with instructors on board!

I know what you mean!!!! I was stuck behind them A LOT last time.
I don't think it's right that they making ARDS licences on paid track days. Make an ARDS only day for crying out loud.

one of the main problems here seems to be that, in my opinion only, brands should be making people who are doing there first trackday, do a novice day first, everyone is then on a novice day is doing the same things and knows what to expect in future

People dont build cars to go slow, im a fairly mindful of people who may of not done it before, but imm there to stretch the limits of my car as well

but they were doing some rediculous stuff, ie braking and pulling over through paddock, its makes you wonder wether they were actually listening to pete in the briefing, who always gives a thorough briefing, and if your not sure is always open to questions

and as pointed out some cars didnt want to get out of the way, ie a z4m coupe and the new m5, particularly the m5 who obviously thought he was quicker than all because he has an m5, but once passed dissapeared at a great rate of knots

there were also some accidents waiting to happen, but hey that all in my opinion

The problem is those who are inexperienced get scared by faster cars even though they are gaven plenty of time and room. I thought the slower guys moved out of the way when safe and those who didnt we just drove around them like some e36 and e46's we were lapping twice per lap every lap

The track day is safest place to go quickly and gain experience with the wide mixture of cars and competances is a good thing for everyone, you dont get good at something until your against someone better than you. Regarding the ards renaults again proves this a key requirement is you get round the track quickly and being aware of hazards, flags, ect doing it on a seperate dedicated day just will not test people in real situations, its like doing your driving test in a empty car park then left out to fend for themselves in the real world; they ust aint going to be as competant are they.

Big thanks to marshals and paramedics and everyone who helped.

On the whole it was a great day, interesting cars good weather . shame about the Accident but its a risk we all take.

Club MSV run some great sessioned novice days which may be ideal for some I will look out the dates and post them . In the summer they also run taster sessions for 1st timers but the sessioned novice days include tuition and 121.

Was a great day until about 10 minutes from the end.

I was admiring the Henna M3 all day, just wish I'd made the connection now, saw Bobs car too.

The 325 pancake was one of mine (A-Tech built), 2 days old ! , was supposed to be on a shakedown run.....

Sheer luck that driver and pass were unhurnt apart from one cut and some bruising. the passenger was a LEGEND and pulled the driver out

Apex -35mm springs with fresh out the box B8 dampers, proven setup and a good compromise for what was intended to be a road car with some track bias.

I did have words with the driver mid morning with regard to the pace he was running, his retort was ( I kid you not ) "I'll not be happy til it's on it's roof ! " another clear case of be careful what you wish for.......

Thanks to all involved in the rescue again, the marshalling was again spot on on the day

you should see him in the radical !

If that was my Henna M3 (there were 2, tho), you should have come and said hello...
I was sharing a garage with a chap in a E39 540i who was on his first trackday...
He, and his friend, were driving well every time I saw/passed them on track and they each had a instructor session...
I also took one of the guys out in my M3 to give him a taster of what can be done very cheaply...

He couldn't stop laughing for 20+ laps and says he is hooked and is going looking for a cheap 3 series (probably a E36 M3 from what he was saying)...

The yellow M3 (Touring car replica?) wasn't being driven especially well or quickly...certainly no faster overall than my road-going version! I had a whole session of 30+ laps with him behind for 20 or so laps until I let him past then stayed 20m behind him for the remainder.

The wrost driver (IMHO) out there was driving a silver Alpina Z4 roadster...he was horribly slow in the corners, but just stamped on the loud pedal along the straights and then braked early without any thought for anyone behind!

the guy in the yellow car does 500k races in germany, thought he was a fairly good driver imo, the car is standard engine wise, doesnt even run an airbox

yeh that was quite amazing, i shared a garage with that, when john got there there were no garages apart from one with a merc parked in it, doing nothing, when he asked for it the chap said he was reserving it for a mate, so i asked if he wanted to pile in with me and my mates, that was a lovely car, brand new built, copy of the calder art car, hes going to be racing it in group 2

there were only a couple of idiots out there to be honest not many more than most days just they had more powerful cars (for the straights)

The CSL was fabulous...all the right bits on it.

If the Orange M3 "rep" was the Jagermeister liveried car, that is a ex DTM touring car belonging to Alex Elliot...He races it in the ADAC youngtimer series...

A few guys from work were down there with Roy Stannard and his M3. Recieved this shot when I got back to work this morning.
