Hey guys,

Just a quick question about what race series I could enter the car dad and I are building in to.

Full spec will be determined by the regs but basically it's going to be a Rover V8 E30.

Yes yes yes - save all your cries of why do that... you'll never find a race series to put that in, just put in a BMW V8.. yada yada... I don't want to hear it :)

Dad loves Rover V8s, I love E30s, we're building it - that's final. Now I want to see if I can race it.

Would be interested mainly in circuit races but would consider rallies too.

Cheers,
Ash

The engine change will rule you out of many series, such as TTRS or Pre'93TC.
You could race in the CTCRC 'Classic Thunder' series http://www.classictouringcars.com/pages/techregs.asp
or I believe that you could run it in BARC SE DMN saloons
http://www.barc.net/regional_centres/so ... nships.php
some pretty quick cars in that, though!
Depends where you are in the country, really.
Is that Richmond on Thames, or Richmond, N Yorks?
Bound to be others as well, I think there's a 'Libre' saloons series at Anglesea - perhaps someone can shed a little light?

Kim.

Thanks a lot for those links Kim. I'll take a look at the regs.

I'm in richmond surrey so something predominately down south would be cool.

I do know I'm limiting my options a bit with an engine swap like that but unfortunatley that's just the way it is :)

The BARC series would be your best fit geographically, I think Silverstone is as far North as it goes. As I said, some seriously quick cars at the front, but I believe good racing throughout the grid.
The CTCRC regs are changing for next year to allow engine swaps to non original manufacturer, so you'll get in on that new rule.
Might see you around.

Kim.
p.s. dont forget, you could always throw it up a hill. Gurston Down is quite local (nr Salisbury) and the car would be welcome in the 'Libre' catch all class. Again, might not be competitive, though.

Interesting - I'll look at hillclimbs too - could be a nice way to start.

Glad to hear about a rule change in CTCRC - I just read in the current regs that the engine must be of the same number of cylinders as the orginal car though - hopefully that will get lifted too.

Just looked at the DMN regs too - I'd be running in class A! Eish - that could be fun but I'd need to make the car something special :) Be intersting to look at the specs for the top-ten runners this year.

Ash,

It is something I am considering now I am not a peniless student(just a peniless worker now).

Look up the 'club MSV' endurance race series. It is a new series targetted at novices. I am sure there are pitfalls, but basically, anything goes as long as it is worth <£8k and has a 200BHP per tonne or less.

You can share driving as well, or take an enforced 2 minute pit stop.

When are you thinking about doing your ARDs test? I am thinking of doing it in the new year at some point.

Hey Jon. How's it going.

I'm hoping to have the base car built in road-legal form for Zone roam, then make tweaks from there. Not even thought about ARDS yet to get honest.

I like the idea of the club msv - I think the v8 we're getting is a pretty stock landrover unit so it would be good to spec it up to meet the 200bhp/ton first of all - then maybe in the future up it to around 3-400 bhp/ton :D

Not bad chap, not bad.

We have a car that is around 195bhp per ton without driver(205). Making it last the 40minutes could be the challenge! :o

Plans for the v8 sound good.

Yeah keeping a Rover V8 running - especially in a race condition might be a challenge but we have some good people to help out.

Just looked at BARC SE Tintops regs, and you could run it in that in the guest class. Bit lower profile than DMN and less high spec cars, I think. No 4wd for a start!
DMN class A has been dominated by Rod Birley in his ex WRC Escort Cosworth. Few Super Tourers and some 'oddballs' such as V8 Star type cars. Plenty quick enough, though.
Saw the MSV series previewed in Autosport a few weeks ago. Looks interesting, particularly if you're into endurance type racing. Biggest problem for you would be getting enough gas into the tank to last 40+ mins with that socking great V8 in the front!! :D

Jon BMW - watch out for the oil surge on that Mi!!
Are you on the 205GTI forum - my Son's on there - he currently runs a 205GTI-6 on bodies as his daily driver. 8O

I do quite a bit of karting and generally prefer endurance in that so yeah -i think endurance could be cool. I think a large tank in the boot would lead to some intersteing dynamics near the end of the race :)

Yes Kim I am. I don't really post much on there though. Same user name as on here. :o:

We have a pressure gauge and do get a small amount of surge on very tight right handers. I am already on a gti6 sump with the trapdoor. More work is required on this front sooner, rather than later. 8O

I could not drive my 205 every day, with throttle bodies it must be, well... intense?!? Luxor barge for the win.

Pembrey is a fantastic little track but probably better suited to something nimbler than an E30 with a V8 up front :D .

Jon (sorry for drift Hoshy) if you are thinking of the Brands/MSV series there is a race ready non sunroof 205 project on pistonheads with the smaller engine for £1700 or so, combine this with your track car and you have a car ready to race with a shed load of spares for not a lot of money, also stuff you don't/won't need that you can sell off and recoup costs.
For sale - E30 320i racer project - sold.
