I'va had quite a few messages recently asking about the aluminium steering guibos I got made a while back. Idealy I'd want 10 names to get another batch made up - same cost of £35 including delivery to mainland UK and N.Ireland. International postage is also possible at extra cost. Nuts, bolts and washers not included.

I can supply a guibo already fitted to an e30 PAS coupling for a total price of £50 including postage, though I only have 4 of these.

The guibo carries two main benefits. Firstly, the eradication of play which the standard rubber guibo can cause. As a result you will get a more direct feel to the steering. I found this to be a very good modification on my track car.

- Reduction in the overall diameter of the steering coupling as there is no necessity for a heatshield. Useful for M50/M30 conversions and also when fitting an e36/e46/z3 rack which have a steeper pinion angle therefore positioning the steering linkage closer to the exhaust.

No if you're fitting the rack in the rear holes you need to use half of an e36 linkage which has a different bolt hole PCD.

Yeah that's fine mate, payment via paypal/cheque/bank transfer or cash through the post.

However, I don't want to take payment until I have several names down.

Would it be possible do do a longer one?
Need one for a Z3 rack conversion on a lhd car. The hole pattern is the same, but the axial length of the spacer would need to be increased to approximately 1.5x the normal length? (exact dimension to follow)
Cheers

I can speak to the guys are the water jet cutters and see what they say, it's certainly possible - but as it would be a one-off it would be more expensive.

Are you sure that it needs to be longer? The LHD steering linkage uses the same rubber donut - so if you're mounting the z3 rack on the front holes on the subframe you can use the standard linkage (and therefore the alloy guibo I sell)

well I have mounted the rack and the steering linkage comes out as being too short.
Currently I have removed the guibo and replaced it with shims, but that isn't very neat.

Just fitted a E36 rack to my 318is. I mounted it to the rear mounting holes and completely did away with any spacer or guibo. I just bolted the two halves together by turning one half through 90 deg. The splines on the rack allow for about an inch of leeway and the clamp bolt fits without any drilling or filling.
I know that some of you will say that the two u/v joints should be in the correct orientation. But in such a low speed aplication I dont think this will be a problem. Indeed it works perfectly. By the way the e36 rack should have a12mm spacer under it to maintain the correct rack height as regards bump steer. I imagine the same would apply to the Z3 rack.
318 is.

To retain factory geometry I think you want a 2.5mm spacer below the rack and 11.3mm above it.

That is for an M3, I should add. Done on a very fancy alignment rig.

Got one of these. Was dead easy to fit and improved steering feel noticably.
These so-called speed bumps are a joke. If anything, they slow you down! :-x

Sorry, I don't quite understand this rear and front holes, is the front hole the one nearer the front of the car, or the other way around. As I'm planning on mounting my z3 rack on the same holes as my current e30 one is.

This may come as a bit of a suprise but the front mounting holes are the ones towards the front of the car.

Not sure on time frame really, once we've got 10 names I will place the order and they usually cut them within 3 days or so.

I think I know why you're having a problem now - the lower half of the M3 steering linkage is marginally shorter than the lower half of a standard e30 linkage. If you fitted the standard lower half in conjunction with a normal sized alloy guibo you'd be sorted.
