Don't bother. They will cause more rust issues than they're worth.

Really? Even with new metal, rust proofing and stone chip paint? I am new to the E30 so these things are beyond me for the now!

They are OK, as long as you remember to regularly wash behind them to remove mud build-up.

My first E30, a 1984 320i had them - they looked smart, and didn't create any rust issues.

I think they are particularly effective on the front, to keep the sills free of mud splatter and stone-chips.

As above, keep the area clean as all is well. Take the off once/twice a year for inspection and no probs.

Does help keep the rear valance under tray(under battery if in boot bit) cleaner and stops the stone chip getting small tares in it which rust up without being seen.

But they do rub the paint at the top of the flap against the body work if not fitted well.
