Just been cleaning the missus E36 compact and noticed thast the dreaded tin worm has started to eat away at the panel that is at the bottom of the windscreen
ive thetwo plastic covers off to have a look and its not to bad but with some scraping etc ive taken away all the bubbled paint work but it has gone quite deep and taken out most of the VIN number
, now when I get the wire brush on it and rust stop then paint it I will have what is going to look like a ground out VIN number, any ideas how the boys in blue would view this repair, also apart from the tag behind the windscreen is the VIN number anywhere else on the car.

I'm afraid that is incorrect, BMW will only release part to dealer onceDanThe wrote:Doesnt matter one bit.
BMW sell the panels with no vin anyway, if you are legal then there is nothing to worry about
Vin Number and Body Serial number are stamped and on the Compact
That panel only comes as part of the bulkhead

yeah i needed new one for my sport, the serial number had rotted away but gave bmw in edinburgh my vin number, reg number and after 2 weeks received my nice new fully stamped scuttle panel, cost me £35 ish
