Cheers guys, paid a little over £3k for it but it's in such nice condition (no signs of any rust anywhere, engine bay looks like it just came out the factory and the interior is nice) I might have paid a bit to much but I'm happy with it.

Nice E36! I've just bought a 323i on an R reg for the mrs, quite a good spec and nice enough to drive. People give them so much stick but the are great cars.

It's a lovely shade and looks a really tidy motor. Decent spec too for a 318is.

I'll get you some more pics when it's back with me.

E30 Tourings make good donors for the GH3000 car crusher and then 1000 Chinese toasters. Please - the anti E36 thing is very, very boring now.

They're even better in their original shell that doesn't have the drag coefficent of a brick wall and the steering box of a bus.

I'd take this any day over my E30. Don't get my wrong I really like E30s.. I'm just not a fan boy.

I'd quite happily be a turn coat when it comes to comfort, safety, looks etc etc. :D

I like them both. Like the colour of this one. My bro used to have a T plate mtec IS, was a really nice car. Was slow though, the engine was noisy and over-revved on the motorway, and not that much better than his 328 for fuel on the motorway (although obv much better in town!). The e30 IS is much more fun to drive, but obviously less refined. I like the dual zone climate in the e36. Eibach springs on standard IS everything else on the e36 was a really good setup, it handled really sweetly. The e36 IS ended up with cams and stuff on it, it still was only 323 quick though. the later style steering wheel would be a nice addition to yours, ian!
Not sure about the comfort and looks though, I like my e30 and the seats are better for me than the e36 sports seats.

I have been thinking about this. They are good for more than just engines. Rear trailing arms, wheels, steering racks and LSD's are now included :D

Need a hand here guys:

Image

Does the key have an immobiliser in it?

Or is it in this:

Image

The fob doesn't work as it needs to be reconnected to the car at a cost of £57 + VAT (from BMW) as I don't feel like taking the glove box out.

The point is that the company I bought it off of didn't advertise it with an alarm just an immobiliser and I'm wondering where abouts it is located.

Cheers.

Your E36 key will have an immobiliser. The key fob is just for the remote locking (and alarm?).

E36 immobilisers were standard from 1992 IIRC.

its in the key, glove box is really easy to remove, two screws in the air vents and some underneath and a couple inside and comes out as one unit unlike e30's

I had an E36 318is not a bad car but if I was to get another one I wouldn't get a 4 pot again, it would have to be a 6 pot.
Nice looking motor tho, looks very clean and tidy
