What kind of MPG may be going to look at one? will it be as bad as an E30 320i?

I know this isn't the forum to ask but is there anything really wrong with the E36 as i have yet to drive one.

Im maybe a bit rude to say this, but if you are looking for a car who gives good MPG number, why do you go for a petrol powered car, and a E36?
If you want to have a money pig, get your self a Mk3 VW Golf with the "new" 1.9 TDi engines.... Not a funny car to drive, but you can drive from south of England to Scotland on a tank of Diesel easly....

78dude it is not rude at all to say, it is your opinion!! Basically i need a replacement car for my E30 st the moment as I am about to start a 4 week period of work(Uni student coming home for easter) and basically I am low on funds and this has come up cheap at around 500ono but i wrekon i could get it for £400ish maybe less with tax and ticket, more of a temporary solution for a car. Not my ideal choice but i kinda fancy something a little more modern looking (i still melt at the site of a nice e30 though).

A Mk3 is out of my price range as is a 325 espescially for insurance (19).

The E36 320i is perfectly okay. The 93 on single Vanos cars are quite lively but are undergeared for long trips - 100 mph is nearly 5000 rpm.

A £400 example will be rubbish however, absolute rubbish. If you've only got £400 for a daily smoker, buy a Mondeo. An E36 worth owning starts at £800.

My tutor bought a 320i for £400.

I bought a black 325i SE saloon, grey leather,climate etc all on the L reg for £350, nothing wrong with thje car at all. M50tu and 5 speed slush,minty !

there are some very cheap dirty-sixes floating about.

The saying "you get what you paid for" is mostly true, there are some exceptions, but I wouldn't count on it unless I knew what I had to look out for. Paying a lot of money is no guarantee of the car being exceptional but more likely than not it will be a better car.

If I was in a similar predicament I'd try to enlist someone who knows their BMW's for help - a decent single malt is not too big a price to pay for avoiding potential money pits!

I use a L reg 320i auto as my daily ( 50 miles mixed conditons ) driver - get 29 mpg

On a long motorway trip will get 35mpg easily

A good e36 is not too bad a car but not as nice as an e30 to drive
