Why didnt they make it in a 528i ? Or do I take wrong here....

2.8 engine was not introduced till the end of the E34 production run and on paper had no more power than a 2.5 so would have been pointless fitting to the soon to be discontinued e34 range.

2.8 was never fitted to an E34, just E12 and E28 (M30) and E39 (M52).

At the start in '88, they launched the e34 with the 530 in the range using the 3.0 M30 lump used in the recently introduced e32. Would have been pointless using the old m20 2.8 as stated above when the M20 2.5 was available.
Later on as above, when the e36 gained the M52 2.8, the e34 was at the end of it's life. The e39 was almost ready to be launced using that engine. The M50 2.5 made the same power (192bhp although IIRC less tourque than the M52) so it would have been a fruitless exercise.
