I'm on my way to pick up a 540 tonight, it's been stood outside for about 3 years. I haven't seen it yet but apparently it jump started and sounded OK last week.... I was just going to try and get an MOT on it and flog it whole... what do they go for, 1.5-2K? But now I'm thinking a full service, brake fluid, new disks? It's all starting to add up so would I make more money by just breaking it? It's an e34 with the 6 speed manual. 160K though :( But a full tank of petrol, result! :)

Anyone got any sage advice?

Ps, option 3 is not an option, I couldn't afford the fuel bills ;)

Cheers
Neil

Gearbox must be worth a few pence! :)

You'll get a better idea once you've seen it... there might be nothing wrong with it, but then why was it taken off the road?

If you want an earner then break it.

Put the gearbox on eBay, they are VERY VERY VERY sought after and make big bucks :bling:

Hmm well its sat on my drive now! It's very clean except for a bit of bubbling on the edge of the boot lid, all the locks are sticking meaning you have to push the handle down again after you pull it up! Bonnet's a bitch to get open etc. etc.
But the leather looks ok and the nice 19" alpina's with new eagle F1's on were a nice surprise :D

Got it booked in for an MOT next week, will see what it needs then... if it's not too much it'd be rude not to run it for a few weeks eh... My god my 320 feels weak after driving that thing!! If I can get 2+ for it I'll sell it whole I think, much less hassle from the looks of it.

ps, That gearbox is awesome. 5th is about the same as my 320 but 70mph is just a smidge over 2000rpm's in 6th. Stick it on cruise & its all good

Damn straight.. Stick the engine in an E30.

You don't often see the 6 spd ones... (its the same as an E36 evo gearbox but with a different bellhousing isn't it?).

Oh jeez didn't realise this thread was still alive!! Well the good news is, I replaced a few bulbs, lubed the locks up and it passed its test first time!! Made the big big mistake of having a sneaky run out in it for 1/2 an hour and I'm totally hooked by it now, that awesome thrust is just so addictive.. so I'm going to drive it for a few months then sell it.... Don't think it'll fetch top money though as there's a few bits of rust here and there, the laquers coming away in a few places, only one key, not much history etc. etc. I'll stick it on here first if the rules allow!

Aye its just awesome! It pulls pretty well from no revs, but then when you hit about 3K the engine note gets harder and it just warps you forwards star trek style... Honestly the whole time I was driving it, every time I put my foot down I was just giggling to myself like a nutter :D
