it has 120000 miles with full service history
4 door with loverly walnut interior and cream leather sports seats in excellent nick.
all electric windows/mirrors,
sunroof,
alloy wheels,
metalic purple colour
arches are rust free and just the slightest bit of rust on the boot lid bottom.
the man says all of the car is fully original from new.

while i remember, if you go to look at it when you start it/drive it if theres any white smoke coming from the exhaust its the oil level warning, the ring/oil lining makes up a 3rd ring to bore seal if that makes any sense?

Quite the opposite infact
Sinking alloy in between bore liners, cracked heads, blown gaskets, pulled head bolt threads, not to mention Nikasil (a whole subject of woes on its own)

I wouldnt just go out and buy this without understanding/experience of the M52 engine as it is very easy to be sold a load of scrap.

How much is it josh

E36's eat balljoints for lunch so listen for a clonking sound over drains etc. Springs are also known to snap at the bottom coil due to getting coated in crud and rotting through. If, and its a big if due to the amount of cheapskate owners that own them now, the suspension is in decent nick they handle superbly but most will benefit from dampers, bushes etc at that mileage.

If its built after 03/98 it should be Nikasil free. Rust on the boot lid is a bit of a concern - the later E36's are really well built and shouldn't have any rot. Go through the service history carefully as a lot of these are now maintained on the cheap by owners who simply can't afford to run them.

Never heard Walnut Interior described as lovely 8O :D

Wont make a blind bit of difference, no ponced up servicing can prevent these things chucking it.

Josh, get the ad up if you want opinions on what its worth

If its in fine fettle the M52 is a cracking piece of kit and with a few simple mods and a rechip the 2.8i can reach E46 330ci levels of performance. Its main problem is that once its been overheated, its scrap. The delights of using alloy I'm afraid.

The last truly bulletproof engines BMW produced were the M43 and the M50. Everything since is unfixable junk if you cook it.

Did you see the nice skid marks left by the piston due to the Nikasil lining? :)

Yes. Even taking the timing belt casing off stripped all the threads!

The timing belt snapped. Bought for £400 and has a engine to chuck in from a 520i Touring.

But apparently the car smoked like a train before the chain snapped!

Probably smoked all its oil away which led to the chain letting go!

Notice how the worst wear was on the exhaust side?

I think the wear was pretty even.

But there was plenty of play in the pistons.
