Yeah I got it of eaby and done a few more upgrades, it's all ending up the e21, currently 335,000 miles only the elctrices are a bit ify but it still goes like a train except in the snow were it's more of sledge.

The hartge bits were't orginal but the engine has the stamp from the history it looks like it was done when the car was rebuilt about 8 years (10k) ago.

335k?! 8O

Any rebuilds in its history or just an anal retentive attention to keeping up with service intervals?

 Hardly a five minute job, i find that hard to believe, they might well relieve you of cash with their rates, but i don't think they would physically steal something from your car. They have too much to lose IMO

Nice car, thought I'd seen it somewhere before.

The E30 M3 DTM cars ran a rear diff cooler too, the oil would be pumped through a small cooler.

Ask Pete about the ML welding job - pigeon shyte and bath sealer......

When it comes to a missing diff, how would you prove it was nicked? But only the owner would know.

I bought the car off them, 1 of 2 RHD ever sold. They were selling on behalf of the owner. The last service receipt (by ML ) approx a year before hand specified " repair leaking diff cooler pipe ". The car did not actually leave the premises between the date of the service and me buying it . That is pretty conclusive proof where i come from !
When i got the car home i done an 'autopsy' and the list of woes was quite shocking considering how much money the scumbags had relieved the victim of ! 8O Amongst the issues was the 'missing ' diff ! :(

E28 or E24? I thought all B7 turbos were LHD because of the turbo manifold/steering coupling clearance?

it was an E24 , an early one, a '79 model. Two cars were converted by TWR who were the Alpina concessionaires at the time. because of the turbo clearance issue the steering box was left on the left and a chain type drive was used from left to right ! 8O Sounds scary but was a very common way of converting crs back in the day.
Total BMW done a feature on it about 8 years ago. it was a very sound car (once i sorted all the previous bodges out ! ) with total history and less than 40000 miles. It was suprisingly solid for a 6 series but had had some Stevie Wonder paintwork done by our friends at ML and was 3 different shades of chamonix white. I didn't want to get involved in paintwork dramas so sold it mechanically sorted but as it was bodywise.

thats not the first time ive benn told such a story, but not involving that garage.i know of a cossie specialist who swapped a duff gearbox onto a cossie that was in for a service and tune up. unfortunately the car belonged to a dodgy chap from the glasgow side who retrieved his own gearbox at gunpoint. 8O
