e36 compact 318ti how to turbo ?

i've got an e36 compact with what i beleive is the m42 engine like in an e30 318is how hard is it to turbo these?

As easy or as hard as it is to turbo a e30 318is is the answer.

If it has the latter type management your better off changing that for the early management (if you plan to use piggy back management) or better still go for a whole new managements system like Emerald, VEMS or MS, but I think I'm right in thinking that these engines in the e36 had knock sencors the e30 318is did not, so in that respect it may take better to FI than the e30 equivelent, even though the e30 and e36 318is' had the M42 engine there were subtle differences. They were not exactly the same.

i thought the e36 318is had the m44 engine...

why do you want to turbo it anyway, get your other projects sorted

nope early ones still had the m42. Thats why IS' owners need the e36 and e30 hanes manuals.

its just an idea at the minute that or a 328i conversion i've got my e28 going into my workshop in the next few weeks for a full on build up winkeye

I would think that a two new "sports" camshafts and another chip & performance exhaust is a bether way to go if you want more power out of the engine dude...

im open to any ideas at the minute to make it that much quicker ideally im aiming for 170+bhp is this possible with this engine
