I am trying to price some parts up for a 1990 M5 to see if its worth getting.Where would be a good place to look?
The car is advertised as having a blown head gasket so i guess head gasket, head, other gaskets and so on

But they are pretty expensive.

Thinking you can get the car back on the road without the price of a new head may mean that it becomes affordable/worth while, if/when you find out the head is buggered and you need a new one and you can't afford it or amke a loss on the car then you are screwed, its best to budget for the worst.

Yes they do.

To be honest you should stay away from this thing. It will give you a headache, and its not a car you can fix on your drive, then cane for a month and sell on for more money.

You are best off spending the money on a car with good miles bills and history.

535i can be picked up for cheap. 200bhp+ and parts can be bought from halfords.

Got to agree

these cars can be a real pain if they go wrong and will cost a fortune to put back right. Your probably better of looking for a straight one with some history as it will cost you just a tad over what you will spend by the time that one is done.

They've been discussing the same car on the M5 Forum. One member had this to say about it:
"Its a terrible shame to see a car like this effectively at the end of its life.
It would be a brave/stupid/naive person to take it on as it is. As Faz has said it would cost at least £3000 to sort out the engine problems before you even started on the rest of the car.
Its particularly sad for me to see a car so similar to mine in this state"

Head job will cost £2000 +++ and that's just the start. Budget another £1000 min for other issues . Sad but tyrue the party is over for this turd . IT's a £750 breaker at best.

That's a nice DIY project for £1500 or less. £2300 is taking the piss, it's not worth that in bits. For 1500 quid you'd take the head off and see what's what - it sounds like a badly blown head gasket and you could be lucky and fix it for £500.

Would an M30B35 drop straight in, or is a different gearbox bellhousing shape?

Same bellhousing pattern but a T+T 535 sport for £1000 is probably a better idea ! :)

Does the 535i sport have the same M-tech suspension as an M5?

Similar but without the expensive leaking self levelling rears. A good 535 sport is a great car for peanuts. alas there ain't many good ones left ! :(

I have a brand new set of eibach springs for a 535. 35mm lower than stock £75 if interested.
A set of these with decent shocks transform the way these big old turds drive ! :)

Russ, the M30B35 is the 3.5-litre straight 'Senior' six as fitted to E28, E34 5-series, the E24 635CSi and E32 7-series 735i
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M30
Of course, many have found their way into E30s also to create 335i's!

Pete, thanks for the offer, I think mine is lowered already, it just needs decent dampers.
