Nice! Is it a manual?
Yep should have traction control with ASC on a 540i, if it works!
Enjoy the awesome sound and 280 odd horses

graham if it has traction its unlikely to have an lsd.
the traction button is under the ashtray in the centre console, says "asc" on it i think.
look at the inlet pipework just after the airbox, it will have a secondary throttle body there which i assume cuts off the airflow to the afm or maf and thereby cuts the throttle etc. i didnt have mine long enought to figure out exactly how it works.

im not sure about that, i thought it was only the manuals that had it as standard and the autos were an option. im not very sure about that either to be honest.BMracing wrote:Sorry guys I thought all e34 V8s had ASC?

graham i think you would have noticed it if you did have it as it sticks out like a sore thumb on the centre console.

You shoud replace the oil and oil filter in gearbox. It is Longlife oil so... do it as the gearbox is still running. Use only Esso LT 71141 oil, known as "liquid gold". As oil filter is under sump, you need to replace oil sump gasket (which shoud be covered in vaseline before fitting). And because there is no dipstick, you need to top up the level than start engine and wait to warm the oil in gearbox. Than top it up again.

There's only one performance mod worth a damn on the 540i - take the stupid 2.93 diff out and fit a 3.64 from a 535i. You won't believe how fast the bastard will then go - not far off an M5. It will still cruise okay - 100mph/3900 rpm and 150 mph on on the rev limiter.

Have your old man gived you his 540 for xmas! I would say you have a fantastic family around you. If my dad gave one of his cars to me, I would take him to the hospital. But back to Topic, you have a sweet car there sir with a nice engine tune as well....

Throw the cats away, disconnect the lambda sensors and get it Live remapped. There is superb worth while gains to be had out of those! I have done a couple and they are like night and day once done.
I only have done manuals though, weather you will notice the difference with the Auto I dont know. But we are talking of way over 300BHP more like 330+ on the ones I've done

You've got more chance of a tree growing out your arse!
If it's still there and I still haven't sold the Auto turd, might have a project on my hands

You could have your dad insure it and drive it third party for 37 hours a week

Mate of mine (who is still on here, despite not having an E30 anymore!) got 322.7 bhp from a remap on his.
He said that was at the wheels, but that might be a mistake... either way, well worth doing!
E30 in need of wiring loom smoke since April '11...
