Hi all
very interested in buying a 328i touring as im fed up of my work van and my e30 is a rolling shell awaiting a big turbo.
Has any body had any experience of the above, i.e what to look for etc pros/cons.
Any info would help.
Cheers

I had a sporty M equipped manual version of one of these in samoa Blue for a couple of years. Was an absolutely brilliant car and I loved it to bits. No idea what they are like now they are getting a bit older. I would buy the one that I had back in a heartbeat.
The only thing I could fault it on was the comfort of the front seats. They were awful after an hour or so. Other than a bit of dodgy trim they drive solid and feel like a tough bit of kit. I'm sure there will be those who bang on about the Nikasil, e36's are crap blah blah. Nonsense, they are a bloody good car IMO.
Good luck getting one.

I'm a 'touring man' and personally think they look better in both e30 and e36 shapes.
Also with the 325i tb and inlet they can make 230bhp so will be far from slugish.
There seems to be alot of abused ones out there tho.

I agree 100%, I like the touring shape in both E30 and E36. The E36 Touring is a better car IMO. I love my E30's and wouldn't swap them for E36's; but the E36 has got it nailed in most areas. I'm not ashamed to admit it either.
There are a lot of high mileage 328's around. Getting a low mile good clean one could take a bit of time - but sure to be out there somewhere.

Just had a quick search.
They are pretty rare really. Even with high miles.
There re a few that could be nice with a bit of tidying up.
What sort of MPG did you get?

Get an E36. I had a 328i tourer with schnitzer suspension and it was, quite literally, the tits. You can't beat roof rails for stealth appeal
Dameon will also tell you how much easier it is get an S50 fitted and running in and E36

if you find one you like then just phone BMW UK, they will tell you if it has had anywork under nikasil issue or if it was outside the build date. Free phone call and peace of mind! Its what i did when i bought my 328 and they were a great help!
What sort of spec you looking for?

No problem. The E36 touring, to me, is a pretty well sorted car full stop!
Regarding MPG, It was a while ago now and for the want of a better memory, I certainly don't remember it being too juicy. High 20's springs to mind - maybe 26 - 28 mpg.
A low miler is going to be a thing to behold. I spotted a nice T plate example today. Looked really nice in silver with black Schnitzer style wheels. Got me thinking about this thread again!

Dameon, where did you see the above car?
Spec wise.
Colour: Silver , black, dark blue. (Preferably not red, as my last 5 cars have been)
Leather
Manual
LSD
I'm unsure of what specs are out there but i can aways retrofit mtec suspensuion etc.

You're unlikely to find an LSD on a late build car. Only early 328 sports had an LSD, and any car with ASC won't have one.
Other than that, I love my E36 (cabbie) - it's far easier to drive quickly than my '30 (although that could be because of the respective conditions of the cars).

I've got one too, got lucky with mine, pretty much got all the options, low mileage, and full service history, spotted it listed on e-bay with a poor description, and won it!
Excellent car, goes well, very refined, only problem I've had with mine so far is a sticky caliper, flew through it's last MOT without a problem.
Oh, and it's a late one on a 99 T plate too.

that is lovely.
If you don't mind me asking, how much was it?
Also cane a LSD be retrofitted if the car has traction control?

LSD can be fitted, traction can be easily dis-conected.
