I am going to look at a 2000 e46 tourer in the morning, and I am trying to find out if there are any common faults that I should be looking out for.
Has anyone here got one or had one who could give me some pointers.
The car has done 80,000 miles
Cheers, Andrew

-snapped rear springs, although they're more common in the Coupe's and convertibles,
-heater resistor pack playing up - fan speeds will be all over the place,
-front control arm bushes, although i would imagine these would of been changed
-uneven tyre wear - suspension geometry resets can be expensive

to be honest, theres not reall alot goes wrong with these cars!! Most of the problems would of been cured whislt under the manufacturers warranty

good luck mate

Dad has an E46 318, an early 'T' plate now with about 110,000 miles.Needed a water pump (in the south of France..),has had axle carrier bushes and a problem with the passenger side airbag sensor that 'was a bit expensive'... Dad is 84,BTW.

My Mum has a 2000 E46 330i Touring Steptronic with 90k on the clock now. It has leather, and all the goodies as it was an ex-demo unit.

Awesome machine. Fast, comfortable, very sharp to drive. Only trouble is, the seats aren't the most comfortable. Try to get the 'sports' seat option. You can alter the height on the normal seats, but no base rake adjustment.

Things that have gone wrong... snapped rear springs, front suspension bushes failing resulting in warped discs, alternator packing up, tailgate electrics packing up, A/C packing up.

Apart from those faults (over 7 years) it's a dream to drive.

How much is the one up for that you're looking at?

tomski is it petrol or diesel, the diesels are prone to pre supply pump failure and turbo trouble ! Check for delay in starting and any heavy smoke if so walk away mate ......
What ?! Drive straight officer......It's an E30 !

Wasn't there a problem with the back axle seperating from the car on pre 2001 cars ?

more of a problem with E36's , but you're quite right in what you're saying. The Coupe's seem to suffer the worst, especially the likes of the 325, 330 n M3

Nice machine.

Glad you're happy with it.

I love my Mum's 330... I always borrow it whenever I can!
