I know the Snap-On diagnostic tool with BMW software can clear e46 fault codes. I believe other diagnostics can possibly do the same. It is e60's onward that may not be workable. You should be safe. 
Pre-tensioners and seat pad faults can bring the icon up, and it will keep coming up until the defective item is replaced (if it is one of these parts that have gone awol).
