i have a 318is 1.9 and the cat has a hetshiel type thing on it which is loose and rattles alot, i dont want to fork out for a new cat and it cant be welded cos it looks like ali,what can i do?

should also say that should say heatshield not hetshiel 
it has gone loose because it catches on speedbumps, apart from the rattle it is in good nick

Only way to solve this is to replace the cat - you can't weld it anywhere I know of unfortunately.
The heatshield corrodes where it meets the cat and begins rattling - it's a common complaint.
You must've made it ride seriously low for it to ground out there though.

it grounds out there and on the chassis at the front! i was hoping it could be cut off but wasnt sure what heat it generates and if it would damage anything
