a friend of mine has a 318ti compact and is interested in putting an M3 lump in it. is this doable? i would have thought it would be, but i would have thought the ECU and the driveshaft would be the big job to convert as most of the other stuff is similar to the regular E36 on the front end.
is this correct?

Engine & gearbox is plug n play using the M3 EWS/ECU/keys.
Propshaft & exhaust rear section need fabricating.
Use E30 medium case diff & shafts.
