Hi guys,

As some of you know I bought a late '91 525i a short while ago, which has the period alarm fitted.

Have moved it a handful of times and the keyfob has always worked, but seemed very sensitive as to where it would work (normally best when held outside the car at the bottom of the windsceeen). Moved it last night, no worries. (Alarm off)

Went to move it this morning and it won't turn over at all. Before, I could arm then disarm the alarm and away we go. :D

Now the keyfob does nothing (as far as the car is concerned), although the little LED on the keyfob lights, so I know its doing at least something.

Any ideas?

Is there a keyswich somewhere to turn the alarm/imobiliser off? (I have a key but nowhere to put it! lol)

Where is the control modual fitted?

I have picked up a new keyfob from the stealers tonight, but it comes with no instructions :(

Just the keyfob itself:

a piece of metal:

and a useless piece of paper (just saying about it complying with radio equipment laws, no instructions)

So does anyone know how I programme the new keyfob?

Many thanks

Andy

Cheers mate, but think this only works for the later style alarms (can't see a way this one will come apart) :( and can't find the alarm control unit :( Have pulled the car to pieces but still no joy in finding it.

Many thanks for suggesting it :d

No worries. Oddly enough, I'm trying to fit a BMW remote/full-closure unit to my '88 E34, as some scrote nicked the remote for the Cobra alarm/immobiliser (the wiring for which is tucked behind the passenger side glovebox), but my local stealer wouldn't give me the wiring diagram for security reasons :x

With the 2t alarm if it is activated the only way to turn it off is with the alarm remote.

The new one you have bought WILL need coding by the Stealer, I'm suprised they never said.

But they can only code it with the alarm in the unarmed state.

There is a way to switch if off totally, (not meant to be known) but it would mean getting a new alarm control unit.

Just a thought not sure it will work or not, try turning the ignition on then pressing the alarm remote button
of the current remote and not the new one.

I suggest ripping it out once deactivated and replace it with a good immobiliser or alarm as the 2T alarm was unreliable.

Oh Yeah the piece of metal is the tool to remove the back of the alarm remote to gain access to the batteries.

Try looking under the front passenger seat for the control unit under a metal cover with anti tamper bolts

Sorry can't help you on that one, but if you need any wiring (or anything else!) I have a 1989 520i that is going for scrap very soon that you are welcome to any parts that are still on it.

They never said till I rang them up today and spoke to the workshop lol

Do you know how to swich it off completely? Not worried about getting a new control unit as I will happily replace it with something a bit more rewarding :)

Or as a last resort getting round it by giving a power feed to the fuel pump relay/starter.

Many thanks

Don't suppose it has a working trip computer (obc)?

Here's the one I was attempting to fit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... L:RTQ:UK:1

It has two sockets, 8- and 24-pin.

Snag is, my E34 had a Cobra 3190 alarm fitted behind the glovebox, which only has a 20-pin plug. I tried plugging it into the BMW receiver, and it closes the doors/windows/sunroof, but the remote had no effect (in fact, I locked myself out for a while, until I worked out a way to get in with the key!)

Hence I need to find the wiring diagram for the BMW system, or get a replacement remote for the Cobra 3190 unit, which I understand you have to have a PIN number for in order to program the remote :x

Have to say I had the same problem for a long time. Key fob lights up, sometimes arms/disarms sometimes doesn't, changed the key fob battery, sorted.
