i know this'll sound daft :o: , but here goes as it's really nagging me...

how do you tell the difference between a 320 and 325 on the following cars....

e30
e36

Lets just say they've been de-badged, so just by the engine, how do you tell the difference?

I know someone who's bought a m3 replica e36, which he claims is a 325 with the full m3 kit....but it doesn't move!!! could it be a 320???? (i'm comparing this to a e36 325 i drove most of last summer!)

Are there details on the engine that would differenciate the 320 from the 325?

no, i mean just looking at the engine...is there any difference in looks/parts etc?

anything that you can pick out that tells you it's a 320 or a 325????

the 320 m20 (e30 car) has a "squarer" intake Manifold, the 325i is round.

Also the block on m20's is stamped with the engine size- think someone on here has pics...

With the e36 it's nigh on impossible to tell! Most would struggle with an M20. The inlet manifold on an m50b20 is smaller than an m50b25, although unless you have the two together it's hard to say which is which. An E36 325i is around 192bhp and should feel far from sluggish.

E36 320i also has smaller MAF and throttle, easy way is to check the plate on the RHS inner wing by the suspension turret :)

Doesn't help if an aftermarket one has been fitted.

M20B20 has white injectors and the M20B25 has blue. Whats an E36?
There is NO nucleus.
