Just got a 316i E36 compact with a blown engine and i wanted to know what options i had when getting a replacement. Is it like the m20 - where there is a 2.0, 2.3 and 2.5 all looking similar and interchangeable. If so, whats the best one to go for and will i need the ecu changed or just the chip?

Thanks

316I M43 = 1596CC - 75 KW
318I M43 = 1796CC - 85 KW
318TI M44 = 1895CC - 103 KW

The 318i m43 from a 4 door e36 will go straight in as e36 compact did not do just 318i, will need the dme though.
The 318ti m44 is another option.
Depends if you want to keep it or fix it and sell it on? I have a 316i m43 good engine which can be heard running and just down the road from you, p.m me if you are interested. Cheers.
