I want to fit a 5 speed box into my 2002. Will any box from an m10 engined doner do the job? Or are their slight differences? I'v heard the early 320 boxes being used. Any idea?

Hi
You need an bmw e21 318/316 box as they have the speedo drive, e30 box's don't
Try fritzbitz in somerset for a box

Needs to be from a four pot as above. It's quite a big "little" job. Buy Mike MacCartneys 2002 restoration book it covers it in detail.e21Jason wrote:Hi

Only got it about 2 weeks ago brian325i, found in a shed covered in dust, genuine tii with what seems to be proper milage of 70k. Interior is totally perfect and it had all new chrome, bushings, brake lines and a respray. It's that love it or hate it jaffa orange. Virtually rust free. I'm delighted with it! It will be on the road before the e30 I recon. Iv been lookin it up and it seems like it's alot of work alright, thanks for the info old_school_2002 will try and find that book

Best box is from a late E21 316. The 320 and 323i boxes have the wrong bellhousing bolt pattern.
