i remembered in the early 80s i saw a twin engined Scirocco that was road legal (belonged to Kim mather sponsored by United footwear if anyone remembers it), it used 2 vw engines and was pretty competitive at the time, think it was 4wd too, anyway couldnt find any pics or info on it but i did find these facts -

There's plenty of twin engined VWs that been built and are fully legal, how would the Prius stand if the above statement were true?

Dubsport under the leadership of Ian Birch restarted the twin enginled car thing near 10 years ago, they use cable change gearboxes to make life easier

A little video

Yeah, I've seen Ian Birch's twin VR6 Mk2 Golf Rallye and his twin nitroused 16v Mk1 Golf at GTI International. Both were road legal and both had two gearboxes.

There was a piccy of a twin engined Corsa mid-build in PPC not long ago and Z-Cars have done some twin bike-engined cars. I've seen a Dax Rush as well as an old Mini. I think the Dax was 4WD and briefly held an acceleration record IIRC.

VOSA should have the answers to this sort of thing.

What about 4wds? They have 2 transmissions, unless they call a transfer case non geared therefore not a transmission.

Wasn't gonna go for the expensive route, well not that expensive, but a mini, strip it down completely 1 900cc in the front and 1 in the back  mission lol, only thing would be the gearing but where theres a will theres a way, would only be a past time hobbie thing, not even sure about a mini could be any frame like a buggy. All just ideas at the mo

As for the bird.... Next Door Nikki in your internet search.... for all to enjoy winkeye
