<newbie alert>

I've recently bought a 1987 525 BMW as a track/drift toy. First thoughts were to weld up the diff, but after speaking to AdamMcF (I believe he's on here somewhere :p ) he suggests that I may be able to swop the diff for an LSD from another model bm?
Can anyone give me advice as to the best way to go?

(Apologies if this information is located under a search forum somewhere, I did try :( )

I have an LSD for one of these but it is a 3.07 ratio (standard 535 ratio) , i fear with a 525 you might not have enough engine ! . I do have a 3.5 lying around though...

The 525i uses a Typ 188 diff - same as an E30 M3 and 325i. Ratios are either 3.64, 3.77 or 3.91. A 525i engine (M30) is quite revvy but a bit fartless top end. An E reg (very late) E28 525i has a 3.64 so a 3.64 E30 325i LSD is straight swap (just swap the output shafts and rear alloy cover) and a 3.91 would make it a lot more revvy.

Trouble is, an E30 LSD is Ԛ£250 - more that most (no, all.....) E28 525i's are worth!
