i have a earlier (1992) 525i sport and it's quick enough but would be underpowered to be any fun on a track. drifting would be hard to control. a 535i would probably be better and bulletproof too.

the e34 is easier to get sideways in my experience, and as said above the 535i m30 has enough poke to go sideways plenty easy,
they did a sport version too with LSD etc.
The e34 is plenty fun to hoon around-handles well for a big car, and not too much lean. but get one with a real engine (m30 or v8

i useed to have a gorgeous 525 sport-lowered,uprated spings, bbtb, ecu remapped, hks induction kit, supersprint exhaust-was a lovely car with plenty of accelaration-until the power ran out !thats why I got the m5
1990 3.6 m5 extended champagne leather 058 rondells etc etc

E34's are beatufully balanced cars and go round bends very quickly.
You don't need a powerful car on track to have lots of fun. I have seen a fair few non M5 E34's on track.
My M5 round a track is no way too heavy - you will find other very heavy cars going round tracks very very quickly - E39 M5 - E60 M5 - M6's.
Must have good tyres to have lots of fun!

I would agree. The e34 is plenty capable as a track car imo. I would have thought best to go for 535 sport, b10, or m5 to make it worthwhile mind but a 525 would be enough to get going
There is a nice b10 iirc on autotrader atm. Purple, clean looking, rondells and they are 260ish bhp iirc with lsd as standard. It was around 2k.
Edit here it is auto ad
