its amazing that someone can walk away from something like that yet a relatively minor crash can result in death.i guess when your times up its up

Why the f*ck not?
Surely any mod which makes the car safer should entitle you to a discount or at the very least no increase to your standard premium?

...because insurance companies beleive that rollcages make the driver feel hes invincible. And that you will drive like a twat if you think you can walk away from high speed accidents.Taylor325i wrote:georob wrote:Bet he was dizzy after that one![]()

i would imagine most normal insurance companies won't cover a car with a roll cage; they'll have their reasons, mostly it's not what they normally do. There are a few companies who will insure a caged race car for road driving e.g. Heritage if that's what you need.Rich_W wrote:...because insurance companies beleive that rollcages make the driver feel hes invincible. A roll cage is intended to make a saftey cell for the driver for track use. A roll cage will make a car less safe for road use, this is because the cage introduces steel tubing inside the car shell where previously there wasn't any. The cage tubing is in places that you're likely to hit with your head, arms and other bits of your body if you are not securely strapped in into a proper race seat and are wearing a crash helmet.
Even 3" belts on a 6 point harness can stretch suprisingly far which can be seen in crash photos. Chances are on the road a driver will not be wearing a helmet and will not be as securely strapped in as a driver on a track.
In other words you are more likely to be injured in a minor to medium severity road crash if you have a roll cage.
To a certain extent the roll cage is a compromise even for track use, it's trading possible injury from body parts hitting the cage inside the car vs keeping the safety cell intact and preventing the driver getting crushed by the car shell coming inwards after hitting a barrier or another car.
I guess on balance i would rather risk a broken arm on the cage vs getting crushed - on track though not on a road.

With all my mods to my 318iS track car, my insurance company charged me an extra 5 pounds a year.

i also like the little nudge the beemer gets to put it into that situation, hope that driver got his head done in for causing that, could have been MUCH worse.

Don't get me started on the actions of the marshals (or the lack of). Makes me ashamed to call myself one.

thats one badass crash, just imagine the lovely feeling of fuel, oil and stuff running down your back when your trying to get out. then just to make things worse, the marshalls are telling you the car is going to catch fire....NICE.
check this vid out aswell, pretty bad multi car F1 pile up....

How did I just know that was gonna be Belgium from a few years back when you mentioned F1. Only 6 cars (those at the front) escaped the incident out of 20 cars.mudskipper wrote: check this vid out aswell, pretty bad multi car F1 pile up....![]()

It's the american way. A mobile team will drive round the circuit to get to the incident. Great for oval racing where everything's nearby and 4 teams can cover a whole circuit quite well. Circuit racing needs proper marshalling, because of incidents like this. How long did they leave him in the car? 30 seconds, a minute, 5 minutes? Over here there'd be someone at the incident within 30 seconds, and rescue crew if required after 90.JCB wrote:where were teh marshalls - didnt see anyone running towards him to help. also why not red flags straight away ?
