Hey guys,

I am nearing completion of some restoration work on my M535i (see sig pic) for another trip to the ring in July. I have just been summing up what I have actually done to the car compared to what I a) paid for the car b) what they seem to sell for on ebay.

The aim of this post is to get some idea of what she is worth.. so here goes:

E plate M535i (manual NON dogleg 5 speed)
NO sunroof
air con (still need to get working but will be done soon I hope)
197k on the clock
Metallic blue
cream leather interior
17" alpina reps
full window tints (done by previous owner but they are kinda growing on me...)

OK - so here is what I have done recently to the car

Replacement (from motor-works breakers Huddersfield) front macphearsons
New pair of lower suspension arms inclusing ball joins (boths sides) (£158!!)
Full powerflex poly bush kit (£150)
Powerflex anti-roll bar poly bush set (£25)
new upgraded front disks and pads (with cleaned up and painted black calipers)
new rear disks and pads (with cleaned up and painted black calipers) (£150ish)
low milage LSD as old one broke (free from my breaker)
replacement fuel tank as old one had a hole (never good for fuel economy) (from same breaker car)
full service with mobile 1 oil (£40 per 4lts... OUCH)
ignition service (£100 including rotor arm leads plugs and dizzy cap)
1 new engine mount (from breaker)
all new belts (£30)
new water pump (£40)
new viscous coupling and fan (from breaker - cost £75 when replaced on the breaker a year or so ago!)
eventually two new sils and a pair on front wings with a front end respray (roughly 1500-1750 as its a pearlesent metallic aparntly... not sure if its the original colour)

my big question is, what will the car be worth at the end of all this as I recon I will have spent something in the region of £2.5k on her by then with all the little bits here and there (and most of that being the welding and respray work)??? I am thinking its going to be worth less that what its cost me so it might be worth getting a higher insurance price for it.. but this means showing all my receipts etc etc

hi,
i've got a couple of e28's but unfortunately they just dont seem to fetch that much. there was a buying guide for them in Either Performance bmw or total bmw (i forget which one) which said that for a mint one you could expect to pay maximum £5000 or so. with respect to ebay, ther people who use it ( i know i do  ) are always looking for bargains. try putting it in the back of Pbmw magazine and see how it goes... a fan might pay over the odds for a well cared for car. Autotraders not too bad either.

hi there guys,

thanks for the posts. Good to see its not worth next to nothing as I feared it might be (saw a taxed and tested one go for £350 on ebay with 280k on the clock... GUTTED). Thanks for the link to the 5 series forum, however dont want to get someones hope up as I have no intention of selling her yet, just trying to work out what its worth.

£1500 buys a good M535i

£5000 buys a good E28 M5

they really don't seem to be worth much shame because 535i manuals are hero chariots!
