winkeye winkeye Interesting, I just wish I had a grand to burn to get the project started.
Need some wider wheels in those arches. Would be awesome to get all the BMW A/C and toys like electric seats and stuff in there. Would probably need some chassis stiffening, bit of finite element analysis would sort that out.

Was confused to start off with... "There's no V12 in that Mustang...!"

Then I realised it was two separate auctions and you were on about merging the two... Doh!

Think I'd still rather put the V12 into an E30 rather than a Yank Tank.

I know what you mean, but the mustang just looks sooooo coool.
Also I think there would be room inside for all the toys. I have just thought why a V12, I should go for a BMW V8!, would sound fucking awesome. Just imagine overtaking people in their new BM's in that!

I think a later V8 would be a better proposition than a V12 TBH. A nice 4.6 from an X5 or something... lovely.

only problem is those cars are horrendous things to drive, ok so that's a later mustang and i've only driven a 68 model but what a boat anchor.

feels like about 10 turns lock to lock on the steering and woeful brakes

Would also stick with yank V8 power which although it is proper barn door engineering, getting bolt on stuff to make a significant difference is pretty easy.

Ok so this is only a pipe dream, but I will do it one day. I would want to use a BMW V8 purely because it is not barn door engineering, so when driving it normally, I wouldn't still get horrendous MPG's. And I'd rather just get 300+ bhp out of the box and not bother tuning. Later V8 would be neat, but as you can see, I could get most of the stuff for under a G if I got an old 750 and a shell like this.

And as for handling, I would want to re engineer the chassis to take the BMW suspension, big job maybe but well worht it, and not too bad as it is a seperate chassis car.

Straight through pipes on a V12 winkeye

I get where you're coming from Widget, we all have these bizarre little schemes we think about etc.. It is certainly different i'll give you that.

personally, i like sleepers. I have a desire to stick the turbo supra lump in an e30, but i've been prattling on about that one for a while now and will shut up about it until nearer the time it becomes a reality, whenever that may be  Also thought about making something fast that ordinarily would not be, like a Volvo 240 GLT Saloon or Estate. Either stuff a big V8 under the bonnet or maybe the T5 lump, keep it looking pretty standard, apart from an evil drop and just annoy the hell out of people. :D

I'm just desperatly hankering after somthing noisey! Think I may have to get the welder out and modify my exhaust when I do the gearbox on the touring!

I will get my student loan on Monday too
If I didn't already have 1 E30 with a knackerd gearbox, 1 unfinished Kit car, and a 1950's motorbike that needs restoring I would buy the Mustang LOL

Na it's a manual, I've already got a replacement from a 320, has slightly shorter 1-2-3 like the sport box, halfway between the two.

Just thought, I'd open the rear silencer, and take out the silencing baffles un stuff then weld the top back in!

Waste of a '70 Mustang.. can get some good power from the original lumps

remember handling wont be no M3 - its good ol' 60's engineering, good for cruising about making a fantastic noise and looking awesomely cool

TBH mate, nothing would be a waste of that shell, look at it, it needs a lot of MIG wire in it! And it's not like it was one of the high spec ones in the first place. That straight 6 lump is NOT particularly good.

Was going to say it's only a straight 6 lump. Useless. (except in a BMW of course)

tbh looked at the ad after posting. the straight 6's are pretty pants, cranks are a major weak point. shell is pretty knackered but you can buy new floor pans etc for em, restoring them is a totally different ball game to an e30

Surely it's not that bad. Cos you can drop the chassis off. But I suppose the thing is that if I was going to do that, I'd do all the welding my self, and I'd be prepared to do a total bare metal job, where as on an E30, if it was that bad, I'd frag it and buy another one!

I am sorely tempted, If only it was in 2 months when I have finished UNI
