Can anyone help me the first spark plug hole on my 520i keeps getting oil in it any ideas what is causing this . :(

Had a similar prob on a 325, is the oil filler cap directly above it?

Could be leaking.

No the oil filler cap is at the other end of the six cylinders . was told may be rocker cover gasket but nice man in the shop couldnt even find one in his book more help needed not sure what is causing it . thanks for your reply anyway.

dont think thats the one but will try the site you gave me very many thanks for your help . Just spoken to someone who now says there are two types of engine for this car as it is an "h" reg 24 valve model.not sure how you tell which is which.

H reg almost certainly means M20 12v IIRC and the oil leak into to the spark plug hole is going to be the rocker cover gasket. it's an easy DIY job, but make sure you use a proper BMW gasket and tighten the cover back up to the correct amount using a torque wrench.

Edited to say: Here it is, you need number 3. Follow the instructions in the haynes manual (I am assuming it's in there).
