been to see a 525i 24 v lookin to by it . but the owner thinks the head gasket could be gone its had new pump rad thormstate . i ran it iderling 4 an hour took ages to get any were near the red didnt sound like it was boiling tho. didnt here the viscous fan come in when you take it for a drive it behaves like any normal bmw .i think it a air lock? any 1 got any ideas? it has no mot or tax & i could have it cheap andy

ive had it cheap. owner didnt ave a clue it takes ages to get to the red iderling then boils i think when its had a new rad its not been blead rite. as water & oil not mixing its not losing any but no heat thro heater & no water in top hose . been told by a bloke on the bmw forum to flush it & start again . or even take thromsate out & run it to see if it does the same . runs realy smooth & drives nice too gauge creaps slowly when drivin.found out tonite tho viscouse is not working andy

M50 can airlock, but normally only if the car is filled with the front diwnhill, and the airlock clears if you point the front uphill slightly.
Nothing like the problems of the M20.
Pull the heater hose partly off at the valve should release any air.
Sure the pump has been changed? This sounds exactly like a brojken plastic impellor.

my wifes E34 (M50) boiled up at speed. the water wasn't reaching the rad. the water pump hadn't dismantled itself yet but i changed it anyway (they're cheap)! i suspect the problem was a stuck thermostat... this was changed at the same time and the problem went.

hi lads ive so far found out that the thormost isnt working taken that out to try it & the visouce all so not workin .there is a new pump in ti but found out the local cowboys did it no names. errm seams like still an air lock takes a drive of 15 mins to get to the red tryed it last nite with the bleed nipple lose & she nver got above half way.when its tight rad never gets very hot . could the pump of been broken when the fitted it ? oh & there is heat coming from heater im going to get a thormstate . if i cannt fix it it will be a job for the garage in pullford many thanks andy

sniff test and compression test would be a good idea.

cant smell no exust fume like smell in expsanson tank & no steam commin from exhurst & its not mixin we just been talkin about a comp test with some m8s gona ave a gud look at it wk end there is no miss its smooth & loads of power m8 andy
