Just having a look under the car for reasons why the steering is wobbling and I noticed bright yellow droplets hanging of the exhaust middle section! It's definitely coolant not rust.
The coolant is low but the oil is not cloudy, the car runs fine no overheating or noise.
I can't see any obvious leaks but wondered if there's any specifics I should test?
As far as I know its still on the original rad and pump so probably due a change anyway

Some French cars use yellow anti freeze, and I think prestone (?) is yellow? But the fact that it's on the middle section of the exhaust to me would say it's unlikely to be anti freeze.Simon13 wrote:does the car have A/C? and when did coolant ever be yellow in colour?!

Yeah it's got aircon ? - was working fine last year.
The coolant is definitely yellow I checked the expansion tank and it was close to empty, i couldn't find any obvious leaks around the engine or the heater but have ordered a new rad as the lower section had seen better days. I did top up the rad about 2 months back so it's losing/using some coolant. Maybe it's not connected and is the a/c as well?
I'll check it a couple of times tomorrow to see if it comes back

The reason Simon asked that is that the aircon oil/dye is usually yellow/green. And would possible be a sign the aircon is leaking.
Coolant leaks can be quite hard to spot. Using a coolant pressure tester is the best way to find a leak. With coolant there is usually residue where it has been leaking.

I see, will pay a bit more attention to the aircon unit then. Will get a pressure test if the rad doesn't work or if can get I done free! - thanks

The evaporator housing dumps condensation right above the exhaust/gearbox so I think that is maybe what simon means, there is a good chance the water is simply produced by the combustion process and is perfectly normal, all engines produce water that has to be cleared through the exhaust and its more prominent in winter temperatures

Well it didn't play up today - no noticeable drop in coolant either. Will run the aircon again when it's a bit milder and see if it's the same. Thanks again

I hope not Willnz! i don't fancy removing the dash or engine to get at it - Yesterday i changed the radiator, water pump, aux belt and thermostat housing. The pump was in great condition with no play but i swapped it out anyway. The same can't be said for the radiator which has frozen at some point!
