E36318tds power proplem

I have my e36 tds a few years now ! But lately it's a pain to drive. Sometimes when I change from 1st to 2nd gear it has no power when I press the accelerator. I have heard of turbo lags but this is rediclous, it actually dangerous when taking off at traffic lights because all of a sudden it will stop dead until it gets a boost . I have lost count how many cars nearly ran up my ass
