A mate has an e46 325i, and wants to fit the 330i engine into it. From what I gather his 325i engine is knackered so he thought might as well put the bigger engine in while it's apart.

Is there much difference in the wiring of these engines if they are from the same age of car? I'm guessing they would both be m54's, but I know hardly anything about e46's so said I'd ask on here.

They look completely identical to me, I would hazard a guess it's plug and play although the ECU may need changing as well.

If they are both fly by wire throttle then its pretty much plug and play, you will obviously need to change the ECU which means the EWS will be out, but I would get it re-synched to your original EWS/keys rather than change the chips as I believe it can give problems with milage info which is stored by the EWS
