How can u tell if the diff is a LSD what markings if any would be on it, by the way it's a 318is.

Not sure about what the tag or markings might be.
but if you elevate the wheels off the ground and have a mate turn the rear wheel in one direction and you the other. You should find your self working against each other that is a LSD
if you and him can spin the rear wheels its an open Diff

get the vin number off the car - windshield area
and search " bmw vin decoder " in google
it will give the full vehicle spec
