328i running problems

i've got a 98 2.8 touring with a few issues,when you start it from cold it doesn't like to idle for the first mile or so then runs fine but when it's up to temp and i turn it off it won't start for 30 mins or so until it's cooled down,are the 2 issues linked?anyone got an idea on the cause.
check for cracking on the rubber intake boot, also check the hose that connects to the idle control valve for leaks
