question for mechanics, my mates got a 120d 2007,

il keep it short, the turbo went so he got that replaced, on the test drive however the car cut out,

went back to the garage where they reported complete engine failure apparently?

They said water has gotten into the engine essentially head gasket failure and the engine has packed up..?

but id of thought that could be repaired no?

the engines only done 120k as well, i havnt seen it myself but its obv from a 2nd party, i thought bmw diesel units where pretty robust..

Would be handy to know what engine it is. As Andy says, could be either on an 07.

Fuck knows, could be anything. Head gasket and hydraulicked, oil to coolant heat exchanger mixing coolant and oil (rare) leading to a seize up, oil pump failure, chucked a rod thru the block........

Either way, it's a very expensive repair. A good used D4 unit will be a grand plus, and then there's fitting. It's going to be a couple of grand at least.

Apparently they quoted £300 labour to fit the engine, all else fails well just diy it,
