I'm guessing he got it for a steal, then it's not as if he spent a lot in materials or parts, just his own labour. Nice fabrication!mcbonio wrote:Jesus, thats a lot of fuss for an early e46 SE turd... I would of weighed that in.

Glad he recommends BH Deox gel, I've been using it too but it's hard to know if that sort of stuff is going to work until it's too late.
Apart from Fertan, we all know that works ;)

E46's really are built poorly, look at all that rust, taking the age difference in to account most E30's dont look that bad underneath and I'm just talking about the rust not the cracks/holes.
Just shows how poorly modern cars are built compared to cars from yesteryear

Both my E46's are nothing like that and E46's in general that have lived down south do not look like that.pac1982 wrote:E46's really are built poorly, look at all that rust, taking the age difference in to account most E30's dont look that bad underneath and I'm just talking about the rust not the cracks/holes.

I used to service several E30's when I was doing my apprenticeship 17-18 years ago, they ranged from early 86 cars to later facelifted 90 builds, so 7 years old+pac1982 wrote:DanThe wrote:Just goes to show how few E46's and E30's you have seen more like!pac1982 wrote:E46's really are built poorly, look at all that rust, taking the age difference in to account most E30's dont look that bad underneath and I'm just talking about the rust not the cracks/holes.

There was rust present and bits falling off on all of them, daily cars that see lots of use and abuse, my boss bought a 324d on a H plate, every bloody door was rotten on the bottom seam! Rear valance/battery tray lumps dropping out, sill rot etc. It was probably my first major de-rusting/resto project and took two weeks of welding/prepping/painting.
Rusty cars are not a new thing, and E46's have been around for 16 years now....

My e46 is in great shape, 2005. We have "real" winters here
and lots of salt used on the roads. She has seen 2 winters but I now store her from NOV to APR.. no rust anywhere yet....

My 2004 330Ci sport hasn't even the slightest hint of bubbling or rust. It comes down to ownership, if you can be bothered making sure the salt and crud is out of the arches when washing, if you bother waxing your car.. ect.bss325i wrote:Both my E46's are nothing like that and E46's in general that have lived down south do not look like that.pac1982 wrote:E46's really are built poorly, look at all that rust, taking the age difference in to account most E30's dont look that bad underneath and I'm just talking about the rust not the cracks/holes.

Early days but good so far.
Underneath can still get scabby though.
