Anybody know of any e39's for sale out there?
I have checked the classifieds and hopefully viewing a couple end of this week if they don't sell by then that is.
I'm looking for 1 with the full M sport package, diesel or petrol upto 3.0 with sensible milage and full history.
Budget of 2.5k.
I know a fair few zoners own them and rate these cars so let me know please.

I know of one which is potentially for sale. I think the colour is called Avus Blue, 52 plate 530 MSport with full BMW history and a choice of wheels.
I would need to check the mileage out for you. its done less than 1000 miles in the last 2 years due to lack of use. The only bad bit is a rusty boot lid on the edge from what I am told is pretty common on the E39's.
Downside is its in scotland, which might be a treck for you.

I flew to Scotland to pick up my e30 last year and drove back so have no problem doing it again for the right car.
Rust on the bootlid is common so i've heard. Get as much info as you can please, PM me if you wish with details. Thanks.

Nope, its currently sitting in my brothers garage. Its a friend of his and he has no storage for it. It was daily until 2 years ago but running costs for his commute started to cripple him. So he uses it at the weekends and has a shitter as a daily.
He has toyed with selling it on and off since but has yet to actually advertise it. He is the original owner as well.

my opinion? i'd wait for a good 3.0 petrol over the 2.5. They use the same fuel but the 3.0 is soooooooo much quicker.
bit like the 320 325 e30 thing

To late now Simon. Was advised to get the 3.0 aswell by Kos. Was looking for either but as its for the Mrs the 2.5 is fine as she's never driven anything higher than a 1.6 regulary. Not many 3.0's out there with sensible milage.

Never understood why the published 0-60 figs for the 523 are quicker than the 525 either.

If any of you masochist freaks want some more pain I have a 523 shooting break coming next week. She is manual in montreal (iirc) with tidy grey leatherz. She is rolling on 'spoons' and looks presentable. It is tested till October and runs and drives ok. Being an E39 there is an assortment of dash light activity. I have no interest in these wobbly turds so it as is where is. I will check the levels and maybe splash out a lady on a Kosovo mint up . £500 buys it

Well we got it and very happy with it.
525i M-Sport
118000 miles
Years ticket with 1 advisory (handbrake)
6 months Tax
Last dealer stamp was inspection 2 in Nov 2011
Electric rear blind
Electric fold in wing mirrors
Rear door blinds
Leathers
Cruise
Climate
PO fitted HID's
A/C
Everything but heated and electric seats and sat-nav.
Few things...
CD changer doesn't work just crackles when i go to play 1 of the 6 CD's, i have a tape player up front, is it just a straight swap if i get a CD player up front?
When i use kick down in D mode and leave my foot planted the needle shoots to the red line then changes gear. Wasn't expecting that tbh, is that the norm on these then?

Looks a nice car that
Need to explain that auto box query a bit more. Are you saying the gearbox is slipping? Or that it pulls away and keeps going until it hits the red line then chages. The latter is normal, the former is not.

The gear change is the kickdown and is the norm for these.
We have one of these as a family car, exact same as the one uv shown here. Maybe selling soon too

That looks lovely.
Autobox sounds normal - and what you describe is one of the things that I didnt like about my 330i - I like to be able to be able to give it a bootful now and again but change up before the redline - you cant do that with these
On my old car it seemed to have a 2-stage kickdown - pedal to the floor stage 1 and then if you pressed harder there was a further click and it would change down again.

Wasn't expecting it to red line then change gear, it's all good anyway and does shift for a big car. Can't imagine what a 3.0 does!
CD changer is now working aswell
Thanks.

The 3.0's are the best all rounders. Well I would say that but they are a quick car for what amounts to a huge barge. When I first drove my first 3.0 I was impressed. Even now, 4 years on and on my second, it still impresses me now. Pound for pound I can't think of what else I'd buy that's as quick, fair on fuel (for what it is) and as comfortable. They are not without their faults and dare I say, getting a touch council / banger money but I still love it.
Where a 525 lacks is in torque really. They rev well but the 3.0 is another level really.

From standing it goes really well but i'd imagine any auto does that right? lacks torque thoughout the drive your right there.
All the 3.0's that i had enquired about had high(ish) milage with not enough service or history and other little things and we were in a bit of a rush to get 1 as merc had sold and mines of the road.

i'm parting ways with my e39, i still dont know why
in the the 2 1/2 years i've owned it, its certainly been the best car i have ever had ! but thats down to buying a good one with full dealer history (even though it's a cat D)
you dont see many nice 3.0 sports, they've started falling into the wrong hands and are all getting rather tired
in the time i've had mine its only needed a cam sensor, wiper relay, centre prop bearing and front bushes, pair of front discs and pads all round and oil/filter changes. not bad in 30 months use and 30,000 miles.
lets hope that the car that's replacing it is as good, it's certainly a bit of an odd ball but i'll get pics up in an appropriate thread soon
good luck sunny, it looks like a decent car and i'm sure you'll be just fine with it

Kos, would be good to see you use your new ride to demonstrate your detailing skills in a classic before/after detailing thread....
You can show the car off, aswell as your detailing skills!.... And i'd learn a few things too.... lol

Looks lovely.
CD changer is a waste of time. Best solution I found was a mp3 player with the correct din that replaces the cd changer, connecting on the back of the head unit. Routing the cable to the glove box is painless and it takes a SD card. Label 6 folders CD01 through CD06 and you can have up to 99 tracks on each. This retains functionality of the head unit and steering wheel controls.
Downside is it's not an exact science. If I select radio and want to go back to the mp3 player, I'd have to switch the engine off, turn the ignition on, select CD which it wont like, then turn it off and back on and select CD and it's very happy then. It's like it needs another 12v switch. Should sort one but CBA. You also can't flip through tracks that quickly. Press ffwd, wait for the track number to appear on the dash, then press again for the next. Ad infinitum.
Still better than taking an expensive punt on another changer which will be likely to fuark up very quickly. I'm pretty pleased with mine and have up to 3 or 4 albums on some of the 6 "CDs". If you find my e39 thread, I'm sure links are there.

Thanks for that, seems to be working fine now but only sleeves 2,4,5 and 6 so until it packs up i'll leave it as it is. Would love the whole sat-nav screen though.
Good idea for Kos to use his new car as a full on demo. Mine is also avaliable if you fancy working on a silver car.

Would like the full screen too, though pre facelift din sockets are different I believe.
