e46 m3 diff clunk?

hi,can anyone help me ,ive got an e46 m3 2002 smg /paddle gear box and i am get a clunk from the diff when i change gear or if i put throttle on and off,ive had the car up on the ramps and if you grab the drivers side drive shaft and and move it, it seems to have play in an up and down motion ? is it a new diff or can i replace anything in the diff myself.cheers

I had the exact same problem with mine, I ended up buying a new diff, but there's a chance that new output shafts could cure the play in the shafts. If you send Gareth a pm as i got him to rebuild/fit my new diff, he may be able to shine some light on the issue.
