Here's my E21 316 that I've owned for a couple of years now. It's been off the road for about a year until I decided to sorn my E30 to start work on it. It's really solid for a car of this age, a few minor bits of rust to deal with - spare wheel well, bottom of B pillar and it's had a blow over at some point and the interior needs a little work but overall a nice original practical classic.

Not sure where I'm going to go with it, got a set of 13" Mahles and it will get a subtle drop with dampers and springs, recaro interior and I've got a webber and E21 manifold waiting to be fitted once I've done the timing chain and vavle clearances.

It's been treated to a genuine exhaust, sachs clutch kit, new calipers, front brake pipes and h/brake cables for the MOT which it flew through! Currently being used as my daily.

I take it you're asking because of my sig, I should update it. Problem is when it's in hibernation I think about selling it, then I burn around in it and start to feel a bit different. Need it as a daily for the moment.

Love that!!

One of my biggest motoring regrets was selling my E21 316.

If you want to be really different, don't modify it. Quite a few E21's have been spoilt now - low mileage cars fitted with M52 engines and crap like that. If it were mine, I'd perhaps lower it an inch, but a clean set of factory steels on an E21 look so right.

I had a lovely Baltic blue 316 15 years ago, AGC912V iirc. She was a 1600 four speed, absolutely immaculate and rescued from the scrapyard - it was there because the oil light took about 10 secs to go out. It was the O ring for the oil pump pipe that had blown out - 20p and about 5 hours to fix.

I think the prices they now going for compared to what I sold mine for is clouding my thoughts, but I can't complain since I got it for free :)

I understand what you are advising, as such I wouldn't do anything that isn't reversable. I intend to keep the steelies for winter,I'm looking for a set of beauty rings for them. As for the seats, the drivers is frayed and I don't want it to get any worse before I can source a replacement or some fabric, also they are woeful for a daily. I'm looking for recaros from a period car, strip down the covers to dry store and hold onto the bases. Webber to replace the peirburg for better performance and economy, again not worth selling on anyway.
Drop wise, yes an inch or so. I think these will a nice addition for sunday best however, like a poor mans split rim.

Thanks kedge! They are nowhere near as much fun as an E30 however. I'm torn because I have to get rid of one of mine to possibly fund a business start-up, unfortunately... time will tell.

That's one of my favourite E21 colours. It'll look great on the Mahle BBS by the way. I had a black 323i on 13'' Alpinas with recaros that I do regret selling.

E21, 323i, recaros and in the best colour! I'd be kicking myself if I were you :D

I'll get some photos up once I've fitted the wheels and lowered it. Need to work out why it sounds like a diesel first, I suspect the manifold.

I do, regularly! Although it was by no means mint - it had 189k on the clock and did need a lot of work when I sold it. I doubt it survives :(
