Got a 535 e34, a few of the exhaust manifold bolts have snapped, how easy is it to drill or does the head have to be removed.

If you need to ask this question, you will not be able to do this job.
Are the studs in the head snapped or the downpipe studs ?

Depends which ones. The manifold to downpipe studs are long waisted studs that need heating cherry red before you even think about undoing the nuts. The head to manifold studs are removeable as long as they haven't snapped off flush. Getting the head off one of these is not a nice job. It's taken Pacer over 3 years to do one
