FYI

Some time ago I posted saying that the new to me E46 1.8 with an M43 lump, That I had bought for the misses had hesitation and flat spots.

Well basically this got worse even after I had cleaned out and sorted most of the throttle body and various flaps and sensors etc. It was paticularly bad in the mornings when the car was cold. It felt like at different points during the rev range the engine would almost begin to conk. Than it would get going again.

Well today I decided that the last thing I would try before booking it into a garage to get its faults read would be to change the AFM. Hey presto the thing feels like a different car.

Just thought I would post in case anyone has a similar problem now or in the future.
