I'm looking at a 1.9 Z3, silver with red leather that has overheated and suffered engine damage. I' m thinking that other models use this engine, am I correct and are they interchangable?
Is there a weak point with these lumps, I've noticed a few z3's and compacts that have suffered a similar fate.

Head gaskets leading to cracked heads on M43s . Head gaskets and profile gasket issues on M44s leading to cracked heads
Identical engines were indeed used in compacts of similar age.

If the engine is shot then a mate of mine has a perfectly good 1.9 m43 removed from a compact (in favor of an s50) that is gathering dust.

To be honest there are a lot of nice little Z3s out there in good nick, so why bother with giving yourself the hassle of this one? My missus has a really nice M54 2.2 late model 51 plate roadster and I never thought I'd say this but it's a good little car. If you wanted a Z3 then I'd say go for something like that.

Shame - I do actually think they're a good, fun little car.

..the styling of these late 90s BMW's is just coming into it's own I think. The last generation before every single panel had a crease or a fold or a 'flame surface'anothere21323i wrote:Shame - I do actually think they're a good, fun little car.
