e36 and towing weights

I have 2 E36;s atm, one is my compact road rally car, and the other is my 316 touring. Love both of them, but i need to think about towing the compact to events now as im getting a but more serious with it.

Now, i have been looking for the max towing weights on the internet and i cant find out what my toruing can tow, i get from 1200 - 1700, i recon on the 1200 is more likely.


So where can i find out for sure on the net as i also want to find out the towing weight of an e46 touring 318, and an e39 520...


I think my compact weights in at 1100kg, and i think my mates prg trailer weighs about 500kg...

There will be a plate on the car that will tell you the axle weights AND the towing weights.

Its normaly in the door shuts or in the engine bay area.

Look for somthing like this.



1870 is Max vehicle weight
3470 is Max Train weight = Max vehicle + Max trailer
940 is Max front axle weight
1010 is Max Rear axle weight.

Hmm, those are the numbers on my car, but i could not work out what was what today,

So does that mean my car can tow 3030-1790kg? 1240 [which is almost the weight of the compact]

1240 is correct.

Thats the Max train (trailer) weight, including the weight of the trailer. i think that at max weight the trailer has to be braked.
