E92 M3, 08 plate with 45k on the clock. Knocking its head off!! Took the engine out and apart to find loose conrod bolts on number 7 & 4! So far it sits at £28,000! Luckly customer only has to pay £2000. Not bad for a brand new engine and exhaust.

Just a quick question,do you bmw techs have to take extra training courses or updates to learn about the new tech and engines?

We probably have them but the tech working on the car is just plain messy! He really knows his BMWs, been with them forever and work is great! But, he is just messsssy!bss325i wrote:Dammm!

The intake ports on the head are super smooooth! Each port is identical to the other, as if the same tool has been used to shape the port.

Oh, and it was on a track when the engine started making noise, that explains the blue brake disks and bald tyres.

All those poncy lifts and tool boxes, tiled floors etc and you sit brand new engines on old tyres with a 1970's engine crane

We are put on training courses for certain things. For example, maximise your effiency as a tech, M power specialist course, hybrid training, new model training( 1 series e.t.c ).macas wrote:Just a quick question,do you bmw techs have to take extra training courses or updates to learn about the new tech and engines?
There are loads of courses but to become a service tech, senoir tech or master, a certain amount of courses have to be taken in a process to reach that goal

Yeh the more courses you have, depending which ones, entitles you to more pay as you maybe qualified in a certain area. This also looks attractive on a CV.

I read somewhere that super-smooth polished inlet ports are worse for performance than a slightly rough finish that helps with atomisation of the air/fuel mixture charge.

Iv heard this too. The intake ports on the s65 heads has slight straight grooves in them to channel the air straight into the chamber. Grooved but its smooth groovesSpeedtouch wrote:I read somewhere that super-smooth polished inlet ports are worse for performance than a slightly rough finish that helps with atomisation of the air/fuel mixture charge.

Using the tyres is Lazy as there are engine specific brackets to mount it to a BMW engine stand which itself is an awesome bit of kit!DanThe wrote:Id say fook off if you think your getting 2 bags TBH!

I'd almost guarantee those ports aren't properly smooth.. When they say you don't want them smooth, they mean polished!

It does look distinctly hand-done, almost like a home-brew effort with a Dremel (though with a touch more professionalism, of course!)Ajsingh wrote: The intake ports on the head are super smooooth! Each port is identical to the other, as if the same tool has been used to shape the port.
