Hello Ladies

I have been looking now for a few weeks for an e39 touring. I have only looked at one car so far but I’m a little confused as to how people and traders are valuing there cars.

Do these seem a little over priced to you guys?

http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3405542.htm

After working out the sort of mileage we are going to be doing I’m not convinced I need a diesel anymore. The car will be used for the school run in the week about 50 miles per week and then a run about at the weekend.

Can anyone suggest something else to look at? I have looked at the a6 but they seem to hold there value the same but come with a lot more miles.

At these prices you’re not far away from the e60.

I’m planning to look at these next week.

I need something big to pull the gin palace and fit all the families bikes in and on.

I dont think its worth going diesel with that sort of mileage.

That same 530i is £4250 on Autotrader

I have spoken to the dealer last week and he is keen to move it on. The history checks out with the dealer.

What do we think a reasonable bid would be?

Sheffield is an hour away rather than the big smoke.

Got to echo the mileage comment. I love my 525tds, but the mileage is shocking around town. I am getting 40mpg on the motorway though.

Those prices seem well high, my 98 one was £1400, I know it's older but not by much!

My brother just got shot of one in not the best colour (light green) but it was a 98 plate on 112K 528 and he struggled to get £700 for it.

Considering it didn't have a mark on it, had a huge list of options and 19 inch 6 series wheels.

He had it up for sale for the best part of 5 months.

Karhouse, i went to look at a C43 Amg there back in the day, was an absolute dog, as was alot of his other stock, id be wary.....
Im sure they share stock with a few other car dealers in the same town.

Is that from the computor or working it out?
My 530d I get easy 50s on the motorway and over 30 round town (my towns arnt very big and not alot traffic i should say)
Compared to driving the Impreza i had the 530d is awesome on fuel, have easily halved my fuel spending

Thing is, you cant compare the price of a petrol to a diesel, I spent a good few months trying to find mine, in the end spent 4k on a 2 owner 02 plate 530d sport, 112k with fsh. That was after stamping on the guys feet too

Thing is unless your into/specificly want a Bmw, NO-ONE will go near a petrol Bmw. Just look at the prices of a E46 330ci compared to a 330cd, you could pick up a petrol for half the cost.
Its because people are scared into the whole car/petrol/tax lark.
A friend of mine had a 330ci on a 02 plate sub 100k, 2 owner loads of history and was mint, he couldnt give it away for 3k, ended up p/x it.

The diesels are so much more popular to your average person who wants a smart looking car, hence why the prices seem high, the sport models even more.

Although I would be open to finding a car that rivals what I get from my 530d for 4k, yet to find anything

The OBC, the gauge all tallies with what I put in my tank, seems to be quite accurate. The 6pot 2.5 is not the best on fuel, and I knew before I bought it.

I have looked at this quite carefully, if you do town driving the average will be around that. You might be getting over 40 on coasting and braking, and 30s when in top gear on a dual carriage way, but everytime you pull away from the lights, it drops down to under 10, even when warm, so as an average, it's actually pretty spot on. I recently drove from Newport to birmingham, and reset it before I left. I got a genuine 38.9 each way, which works out about right. from the fuel tank.

Bear in mind mine is an auto, and there is no way to stop it revving out in each gear to at least 3000 as you accelerate. it has way more torque at 2000, the acceleration drops off noticeably. What I really want is a mod for the gearbox ecu to modify the change point, I reckon if you could stop it going over about 2300 rpm max it would do many more mpg.

get on a motorway at 70, minimum throttle, and then reset it, see what you get. Probably about 45-50mpg. I think most of the time, the fact that it's a true average messes with peoples heads. You can do a 100miles at 40mpg, but the 3 miles you did at the start at 10mpg drags the overall right down, more then people think it should!

Well I looked at this today.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260825425097? ... 1423.l2649

What a turd. Sneaked out of work early to have a look after speaking to the dealer. Turns out his idea of excellent is a car full of dings with a serious oil leak that filled the car with burning oil after a run. Why do they take the piss??

This was not much better

http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3400101.htm

Much better condition although still very strong money. Stank of dogs and had had some bad front end paint.

I know I'm real picky but it’s a lot of bread for a 9 year old car.

All that said I'm going to keep looking. The petrol is no comparison to the diesel. Diesel wins every time in my book. Cheap to run if you get a good one and loads of low end torque.

Also look at 2.0 petrol Mondeo Estates - they drive alright and are worth fuck all. Ditto 2.0 Petroleum Passat wagons.
