A mate of mine has a 318is E36 and when he starts the car and drives everything is fine until he turns a bend when there is an a very load whine coming from what appears to be the power steering system.
I think it is the pump on its way out but the steering doesn't get any stiffer, it isn't losing fluid as the res bottle is at the correct level.
I don't think it is the rack itself it sounds like the pump from listening to it whilst driving. Could it be anything else simple to check before the pump is bought and changed?
thanks
E36 power steering help please

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

has he tried changing the fluid?
my e36s steering had quite a loud groan at low speed, i was prepared for the worst, but changed the fluid on the off chance. almost 2 years and 30,000 miles later and it's still nice and quiet!
