Those are real marmite colours. I dont like any of them colours. Whoever buys them if they own it for short-term will be difficult to sell on.

Give me a E46 M3 any day of the week over the fat, ugly E92/E93 with its non-driver centric interior and those small climate control/heater control buttons (compared to E46) and you cannot argue with that multiple award-winning straightsix. NA Straight-sixes are synomous with BMW.

I noticed i think black/white are both the new "vogue" colours now compared to grey/silver/black some years ago.

Later NA 6 pots from bmw also suffer fron misfiting and various other faults that a bmw should not have at only being 2/3 years old...

Yes the e46 s54 is a great and powerful engine but u cannot ignore that 4 litre v8 which sounds and drives soo good in the e9x.. Its a lovely car to drive. U cant beat the sound of a V8!

The E9x M3 is a serious weapon where as an E46 M3 is a fast car.

The S54 in the M3 whilst a great engine

http://www.worldcarfans.com/10812301585 ... ix-retires

The S54 won it (International Engine of the Year 3 - 4 litre) every year during E46 M3 product life cycle 2001 - 2006 even trumping the infamous Porsche flat-six 996 (Carrera/Turbo), Ferrari's high-revving screaming V8 360 Modena. It has a specific output 105-6bhp/litre in regular M3 (Coupe/CS), 110bhp/litre in M3 CSL. Where the M3 V8 still produces "just" 105bhp/litre. The V10 in the M5 and M6 is 101-2bhp/litre. This was at a time when:

Ferrari/BMW/Honda were one of the few manufacturers to break specific output of 100bhp/litre and reach/exceeed 8000rpm
Ferrari/BMW the only manfucaturers with paddle-shift gearbox operation as per F1
Ferrari/BMW the only manufacturers with launch control programs as per F1 at the time
BMW had diff throttle mapping button - i think it was the only manufacturer with this - but not sure?
BMW had 4 exhausts in regular models (introduced on M Coupe/M Roadster/M5) then copied by AMG and most high-performance manufacturers (e.g. Porsche). Back in the day you would only find these 4 exhausts on Ferraris/Masertis.

From magazine reviews and those that know i been told the E46 M3 CSL sounds a "lot" louder than the regular E46 M3 and so much more "better" than the E92 M3 primarily due to its induction noise.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internatio ... f_the_Year

There is no getting away from the fact though the V8 is 15kg less mass than the S54 and produces extra 77bhp - very impressive. The S54 is the pinnacle of NA straight six by BMW is it not?

The other thing i wanted to say during the E46 M3 time it completely cleaned up its competition like the E39 M5. The E92 M3 has not - remember the mixed reviews by Autocar when it was launched and when Chris Harris mentioned some buyers cancelled their orders and went for last-of-the line E46 M3 CS. Though admittely the competition is tougher now with E92 M3:

E92 M3 Competition: CLK 63 AMG, RS5, C Class Coupe AMG, XKR, 997 C2S, Maseerati Grandsporte
E46 M3 Competition: CLK 55 AMG, RS4, XKR, 996 Carrera, Maserati Grand turismo coupe

I always thought the S65 would be a great engine for an E30 especially due to the weight.

Yep sure are. What is funny is when ever you buy a new car that has just been launched and live it up (unless you keep it forever), when sold on - the early models as per the link - usually end being the ones with oldest/most miles/most neglected/most owners/distastefully modified etc.

Can you see the E92 M3 becoming a "classic" in 20yrs being the last NA M car?

I tell what IS a classic. E46 M3 CSL. Though all of them being tracked/high owners/modifed

The other thing what about E34 M5 LE. LAst M5s with straight-sixes without DSC, last of handbuilt (which is a good thing/bad thing) depending on your view point. Surely a future classic.

Yes they are a classic.

Not all of them btw, remember i told you that we get a couple in, well one of them has less than 20k on it and is totally standard.

The owner also owns a low mileage Z8 and some other interesting BMW's and Porsches.

It is funny alot of CSL owners track their cars. Sport Evolution owners probably did the same back in the 1990s. Can you imagine a Sport Evolution owner tracking their car now?

Yes Z8s - i think hold their value not bad. Porsche 993s good ones like C2S/Turbo much more expensive than 996s as last-of-the air cooled. Great to look at. Horrible interior. 996 has a even more digusting cheap interior which it shared with boxster.

Did you not get to drive the CSL? Or did you mean CS?

The E36 M3 really is the poor relation.

Somehow you got to get yourself a drive of a CSL. Then you will see S54 is the best :D

Regardless of what one says about the 996, the 996 911 Turbo has to be THE supercar bargain of the moment.... Seriously undervalued and a serious tool...

Hubba hubba i have an Original Porsche 911 (996) Turbo poster framed at home. Along with (E46 M3 Coupe poster/E46 M3 CSL poster - all Original BMW). I got the Original Porsche 996 Turbo launch brochure when i went Earls Court in 1999. What a thing of beauty it was. I never liked the 996 pre-facelift but as soon as i saw the Turbo at Earls Court - hubba hubba - it was as if God himself created it.

Yeah i wasnt a fan of the Boxter type front lights, but in Turbo form they look stunning...

A Widebody C4S has become a serious bargain as well, Turbo body and wheels, similar brakes and suspension... They look so elegant without the big rear spoiler and side vents and full length rear reflective panel....
